Foundress Week

Francoise Blin de Bourbon and Julie Billiart were two amazing women who helped Sister of Notre Dame congregation become what it is today. However, both of these incredible women could not have grown up more different. Francoise grew up very privileged, her family was very well off and as Francoise grew older, she began to help others in need, as she did this she realized that she was lacking something even though she had grown up with everything. She continued her journey to help others who were less fortunate. Julies' childhood was nothing like Francoise's, she came from a middle class family that had to work hard to make their way in life. Julie early on loved helping people especially educating young children. As she grew older she was stricken with multiple sclerosis (MS). She was stuck in a bed and had to rely on the help of others however this did not waiver or deter her from continuing her work of helping others. 

 I think that foundress week is something that is very important to the student body here at school. Being able to learn from these women and apply what they did in their lives to our own lives is something i think each student should strive for. Always try to better ones self and never stop helping others.

Europeans had defined others largely in religious terms, now they adopted the idea and techniques of more “advanced” societies equals precedent by wealth, and used both to produce unsurpassed military power.   It’s not surprising that their opinions of other cultures dropped sharply. The End of Empire

Contradictions of the colonial empires: Major factors for the collapse of the colonial empires were the numerous contradictions between European ideals and the nature of colonial rule. How were Christians, heirs of the Enlightenment, and democratic states able to justify the stark injustices of colonial rule? A new international climate after WWII: Decolonization also saw some clear conjunctures of new forces after WWII.
